We met in the rain
The Queenscliff ferry was cancelled and the café had one table left. Charlotte was reading; James asked the name of the book and never quite gave the seat back. We talked until the next sailing, then missed that one too.

We took a small weatherboard near the bay, painted the hallway three wrong colours, and adopted Biscuit — who has opinions about the seating plan and will be staying home on the day.

On a still evening at Point Lonsdale, with the lighthouse turning and Biscuit covered in sand, James finally caught up. She said yes before he finished the sentence.
